Bust Half Dollars
1821 50C O-103, R.2, MS62 NGC. Subtle iridescent colors and soft silver luster reside beneath a mantle of light, silver-gray patina on both sides of this attractive Mint State 1821 half. The strike is razor-sharp throughout. Both the A's and the E's are defective on O-103, which is struck with the same reverse die previously used for the 1820 O-107 variety. The Spring, 2017 reference by Stephen Herrman shows the MS62 grade at the low end of the Condition Census for the early die state. Census (all 1821 varieties): 17 in 62 (1 in 62+), 55 finer (6/17).
