Bust Half Dollars
1829/7 50C O-101, R.1, AU58 PCGS. The large, well-shaped 5 in the denomination confirms the reverse, while recutting of the entire date is visible -- the 1 and 8 recut south and the 2 and 9 are recut north, with vestiges of underdigits 2 and 7 beneath the primary 2 and 9. Lapped dies show removal of most of the tailfeathers and some of the arrow shafts. In a later die state, additional lapping of the reverse furthers the loss of detail. This near-Mint example is smoothly lustrous with even olive-gold toning and nearly mark-free surfaces.
