Bust Half Dollars
1836 50C Lettered Edge, O-117, R.3, MS62 PCGS. The entire date is low, but the 1 is lower still and tipped right. Recutting on star 8 and an abnormally large C in 50 C confirm the variety. Intermittent olive-gray toning displays a swath of peach-gold that runs vertically through the portrait. We note an area of weakness at PLUR and the scroll border, and slight incompleteness at the eagle's head and neck feathers. O-117 is a somewhat scarce variety, with the present MS62 coin approaching the low end of the Condition Census.
