Barber Half Dollars
1915-D 50C MS66+ NGC. CAC. David Lawrence summed up this Denver issue in two words. "Comes nice." Other than that concise description, the most notable attraction to collectors is its status as the series final-year issue -- an important factor for type purposes. The current coin is extremely frosty and lustrous, tinged by a slight hint of amber-gold toning, although otherwise brilliant. The surfaces show virtually no imperfections or marks other than a thin die crack that wanders from the ball of the 5 across the tip of the neck truncation and ends at star 13. The strike is bold but blends slightly at the upper right shield and wing junction. A condition rarity in high end Premium Gem, with only one example numerically finer at either PCGS or NGC, and with this coin one of two examples receiving the NGC Plus designation. Census: 11 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer. CAC: 15 in 66, 0 finer (6/17).
