Early Dollars
1797 $1 9x7 Stars, Small Letters, B-2, BB-72, R.4 -- Repaired -- NGC Details. VF. Bowers Die State I, as always. The 1797 BB-72 dollar was once considered a major rarity with 20 or so pieces believed extant. Although not the impossibility it once was (200 to 300 coins are thought to survive today), it maintains its place as the scarcest of the three varieties for the year. This well-circulated example appears to have been smoothed at the upper reverse. Brown and steel-blue toning covers each side. Diagonal adjustment marks are noted below Liberty's ear.
