Early Dollars
1798 $1 Small Eagle, 15 Stars, B-2, BB-81, R.3, VF30 PCGS. Ex: Indiana Collection. Bowers Die State II, lapped, as usual. There are only two Small Eagle die varieties for the 1798 Draped Bust dollar, distinguished by either 13 or 15 stars on the obverse. BB-81 is the latter variety. The current coin offers excellent detail for the grade and original lavender-gray surfaces with tan highlights on the relief elements. There are no adjustment marks observed, although several of the upper stars exhibit weak definition.
