1942 1C Experimental Cent, Judd-2060, RB 42-60, Images Reversed, SP66 PCGS. First Reverse. The Auburn Button Works of Auburn, New York was apparently a late entry in the 1942 Experimental coinage program, and they received a set of coinage hubs rather than actual dies. On January 23, 1943, a letter from Auburn Button Works to Mint headquarters specifically referred to the hubs that were provided, creating reverse images on the finished product. This umber-tan example clearly illustrates the reverse images, and it is the only one known to exist. The surfaces are smooth, and the strong impression indicates a careful and well-made piece.
