1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-990, Pollock-1119, High R.7, PR66 Brown NGC. Standard Silver design with Liberty facing right wearing a headband with a star, a scroll below, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above. The reverse has 50 CENTS in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel with 1870 below and STANDARD SILVER above. This design is similar to that used in 1869. Probably fewer than a half dozen are known of this variant. Struck in copper with a plain edge. While labeled as a Brown coin, there is significant underlying mint red remaining on the obverse. The reverse is several shades darker with little red apparent. The fields are nicely reflective. Numerous lint marks are seen scattered over the reverse.
