Gold Dollars
1853-C G$1 MS62 PCGS. Variety 1. Bowers writes in A Guide Book of Gold Dollars: "The 1853-C is another rarity in the lineup of Charlotte Mint gold dollars. ... The survival rate was strictly a matter of chance, because there was no numismatic interest in them at the time. Nearly all are in circulated grades." Survival estimates range from 150 to 400 coins in all grades, and between 15 and 50 in Mint State. The upper estimates are likely more accurate. Minimal planchet roughness and a uniformly bold strike set this MS62 gold dollar apart from its C-mint contemporaries. Attractive with honey-gold hues. Housed in a green label holder.
