Liberty Quarter Eagles
1856-C $2 1/2 AU53 NGC. Variety 1. Rose-gold luster visits portions of this predominantly green-gold example. No marks are consequential and the strike is crisp by antebellum Southern gold standards. As usual for this rare Charlotte issue, the fields display shallow strike-throughs (as struck) near star 1, the arrowheads, and the eagle's neck. From a mintage of 7,913 coins, it is believed that fewer 125 pieces remain. Census: 12 in 53, 52 finer (6/17).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2013), lot 5510.
