Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1854-O $3 AU55 PCGS. The 1854-O date/mintmark combination brings to mind the very rare double eagles struck at the New Orleans Mint that year, but the three dollar gold pieces are scarce in their own right with only 24,000 pieces minted. Most survivors are seen in XF40 to AU50, while coins at this level can pose a real challenge. The date, ribbon, and curls are typically struck, but evidence of friction is minimal. Lightly marked with orange-gold coloration.
