Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1869 $3 AU58 PCGS. A near-Mint example of this challenging issue, which comes from a mintage of 2,500 coins. The strike is bold with prooflike fields. Bright yellow-gold surfaces reveal minor scattered abrasions. The 1869 was issued before low-mintage dates of this series were widely saved for numismatic purposes, meaning that Uncirculated examples are much scarcer than those of the coins from the 1880s. Population: 33 in 58, 27 finer (6/17).
