Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1880 $3 MS64+ NGC. The 1880 three dollar gold piece is far more plentiful than its mintage of 1,000 coins would suggest, although it is indeed scarce in MS64 or better grades. The current coin is well-preserved with original peach-gold luster and semiprooflike fields. The wreath bowknot shows the only touch of strike weakness. Census: 34 in 64 (3 in 64+, 4 in 64 ★), 21 finer (6/17).
