Early Half Eagles
1807 $5 Bust Right, BD-3, High R.5, AU55 NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/c, with dramatic clashing on each side. This variety represents about 2,500 to 5,000 coins from an original mintage of 32,488 pieces. However, only 35 to 45 examples are known, and the extensive Bass collection only included a single representative. The 1 is over the curl, star 8 is away from the Y, and ST in STATES are close. Green-gold surfaces show tinges of red color around the borders. Design detail is razor-sharp throughout. Small marks are of little consequence relative to the rarity of this 1807 BD-3 half eagle.
