Early Half Eagles
1811 $5 Tall 5, BD-1, High R.3 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. Bass-Dannreuther Die State b/d. Clash marks from the reverse shield are lightly visible low Liberty's ear. The Tall 5 1811 half eagle is slightly scarcer than the only other known variety for the year, which shares the same obverse. About 175 to 250 pieces are believed extant. While this AU example was cleaned at some point, its subdued reddish-gold surfaces are strongly struck throughout and still appealing. Minor adjustment marks have worn away a portion of the reverse rim above ST.
