Classic Half Eagles
1834 $5 Plain 4 AU58 NGC. Breen-6501, McCloskey 3-B, R.1. First Head. A well-detailed Classic type coin that has original rose and olive toning atop orange-gold surfaces. Luster shimmers throughout the devices and reverse border. A mark on Liberty's jaw is among the many scattered abrasions that appear on this piece. In 1834, the dollar was devalued in terms of gold, which enabled gold coins to finally circulate in the United States.
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 11/2007), lot 1990.
