Liberty Half Eagles
1841-D $5 Small D AU58 NGC. Variety 5-D. The 1841-D is fairly plentiful in the context of Dahlonega half eagles from the 1840s, although it is scarce in high grade. This near-Mint representative is sharply struck save for the eagle's talons. The straw-gold surfaces have some remaining mint luster in the fields and show relatively smooth patina. This piece would serve well as a type candidate for the collector seeking a single coin from the Georgia branch mint. Census: 10 in 58, 22 finer (6/17).
