Liberty Eagles
1884 $10 MS63 PCGS. Garrett and Guth's Gold Encyclopedia explains that this low-mintage issue (76,860 pieces struck) has benefited from European bank hoards, explaining its relative accessibility in Mint State. However, it should be noted that comparable examples are rare, while anything finer than this MS63 would be classified as rare. Fully struck devices, glowing mint luster, and warm, orange-gold color are eminently appreciable. Three ticks near the mouth and below the chin merit mention. Population: 22 in 63, 6 finer (6/17).
