1866 $20 Motto AU58 NGC. This is the far more available With Motto variant for the 1866 double eagle and a first-year example of the Type Two design. Nearly Uncirculated coins are very scarce, while Mint State representatives are rare and generally realize well in excess of five-figures when offered. This lustrous, boldly struck double eagle very nearly qualifies for a mint condition assessment, showing a faint trace of friction on the upper part of the cheek.
