1874-S $20 MS62 PCGS. Block S. Writing in their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins, Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth explain: "Like most Type 2 double eagles, the date is very rare in MS-62 condition. Just a few examples are known at the choice MS-63 level... ." Original orange and green-gold surfaces are awash in a thick layer of mint frost and exhibit scattered grazes in accordance with the grade. Boldly impressed throughout. PCGS reports four higher grading events (6/17).
