BMC-10.40, 56. Chimaera facing left, fore-paw raised, wreath above; Reverse: Dove flying left, "I" before, all within wreath. The Chimaera is a famous mythical beast commonly depicted as a lion with the forepart of a goat emerging from its back with its lions tail ending in a snake's head. This monstrous creature could breath fire and was finally subdued by the hero Bellerophon who flew upon the winged Pegasus. Struck on a high quality flan with nice hard metal surfaces and great luster. Nicely centered and quite attractive. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
