AUSTRIA. Goldgulden, ND. Judenburg Mint. Albert II (1330-58). NGC MS-62.
Fr-1; De Mey-256. The first gold coinage of Austria, an imitative of Florentine Fiorino d'Or coinage then circulating widely through Southern Europe. Struck concurrent to the arrival of the Bubonic plague in much of Europe, with the fourteenth century in general being a rather harsh period. Depicts Saint John standing, scepter in hand and raising a hand in benediction; Reverse: Elaborate lis. Essentially as struck with modest die erosion accounting for areas of minor weakness. An outstanding example sure to excite the specialist of Austrian numismatics. NGC MS-62.
Estimate: $1800.00- $2200.00
