MEXICO. Carlos & Johanna, Early Series. 4 Reales, ND (1536). Assayer R, Gothic Assayer's letter (oMo-oMo). Francisco del Rincon. Oval Panel. NGC EF-40.
KM-16; Nes-unlisted. VERY RARE variety with Gothic "R" assayer's letter and unabridged spelling of "PLVSVL". The first Four Reales of Mexico and the New World. The Gothic "R" was the first emission of the Mexico city mint and became crystal clear with the discovery of examples of 4 Reales with Latin "R" over Gothic "R" indicating that the dies were reworked at a later date. Well struck despite minor doubling with every aspect one could want from an early series 4 Reales. Clear full legends on both obverse and reverse on a nearly perfectly round planchet. Lightly toned and quite attractive. NGC EF-40.

Estimate: $3500.00- $5000.00
