MEXICO. Carlos & Johanna, Early Series. 4 Reales, ND (1538). Assayer R, Latin Assayers letter with Gothic mintmark (oMo oMo) Francisco del Rincon. Oval panel. NGC EF-45.
KM-16; Nes-6c. The Latin "R" was the second emission of the Mexico city mint and subsequently the second 4 Reales of the new world. The discovery of specimens with the Latin "R" over the Gothic "R" prove that the latter was indeed used first. Well struck despite minor doubling with good definition of the central devices and nearly full legends. Lightly toned and attractive. NGC EF-45.
Estimate: $3000.00- $4000.00
