Medallic portraits of Alexander II and Alexander III facing each other surrounded by wreaths, Imperial crown above, arms of Russia below, all within border, legend around; Reverse: View of Tomsk university building, radiant star above, arms of Tomsk province flanked by dates in exergue. Alexander II signed a decree 28 May 1878 establishing the higher education institute located in the most Eastern part of Western Siberia. The first class that attended consisted of 72 students with eight professors and seven assistants and lab technicians. Today more than 72,000 student attend classes. The establishment of this university beyond the Urals changed Tomsk dramatically. Sharply struck with definition of the fine details in high-relief display lovely soft grey in the open areas which transitions to beautiful multicolor tone amongst the devices and the legends.
