MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1735-MF. Philip V (1700-46). NGC VF Details--Tooled.
KM-94; Gil-M-4-7a; Yonaka-M4-35a; Cal-Type 179#1049; Harris-139; Palmer & Almanzar-211; Grove-768. Rosette over assayers' letters instead of a pellet. EXTREMELY RARE variety. Mr. Yonaka in his expansive research reviewing over 600 4 Reales was only able to locate one example of this variety. A real treat for the specialist of Pillar coinage. The noted defect of "Tooled" can be attributed to either side of the "L" in Philip where long ago someone had removed some debris from the surface of the coin and ended up placing nearly imperceptible scratches in its place that if not pointed out one could very easily overlook, now toned over and matching the rest of the coin. Lovely deep old cabinet tone throughout with hints of red and gold amongst the devices. Quite an attractive example of this rare variety and sure to excited even the most advance of collectors. NGC VF Details--Tooled.

Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
