Clearly marked with a CAE monogram, these sling-bullets would have been carried by the archers of Julius Caesar's army on the Hispanian Campaign of the Civil War. Pompey having fled the Italian mainland, Caesar marched his army north to the province of Hispania where, at the Battle of Ilerda, he routed and destroyed the politically-leaderless Pompeian army commanded by the legates Lucius Afranius and Marcus Petreius.
