GREAT BRITAIN. Miscellaneous Gold Medals, ND (ca. 1960's & 70s).
9 pieces in lot. Eight are gold and one gold-plated silver. Included in this lot is a set of two 22 K medals issued for the 900th Anniversary of Westminster Abbey. Each weighs 14.55 grams and they are housed in a double presentation case of Corbett & Hunter Limited, Numismatists from Newcastle upon Tyne. A single .900 Fine gold medal features Winston Churchill and notes the dates of his birth and death. It weighs 3.4 grams and is uncased. There is a peculiar cased set of Churchill "This Was Their Finest Hour" medals seemingly marked 900 fine in the die, but marked .750 on the edge or on the face, one weighs 17.4 grams, and the other 3.4 grams. We believe they are of the lower fineness. There are three 18 KT medals, each individually cased: Two are identical and feature Winston Churchill and his V for Victory sign - they weigh 4.1 grams each. The final 18 K medal honors the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and features the famous Supermarine Spitfire fighter plane - weight: 8.2 grams. It is cased and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. The total weight comes to 1.52 Troy ounces of fine gold. Also included in this lot is a gold plated silver medal of Field Marshall Montgomery on his death in 1976. It is cased, and comes with a certificate of Authenticity. An intriguing lot. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. MINT STATE.
