ABBASID: al-Muqtadir, 908-932, AR dirham (3.00g), Surra man Ra'a, AH300, A-246.2, mint name re-engraved over madinat al-salam, VF to EF, R. Re-engraved mint names are well-known from the reign of the caliph al-Muqtadir, as well as the closely previous and subsequent caliphs. If too many dies were available at a specific mint, a different city name would be re-engraved, and the die send to that other city. This piece appeared in a previous British auction with the mint tentatively read as "Qasr min Julaq (?)" and an estimate of £3,000, and did not sell. There is no such mint as Qasr min Julaq.
Estimate: 100-150 USD
