TURKEY: AV 500 kurush, 1943, KM-874, Monnaie de Luxe issue, head of Ataturk left // country name in ornate monogram, prooflike with some contrast, NGC graded MS63. The Monnaie de Luxe series was made primarily for jewelry and presentation purposes. These pieces were thinner, but broader than the regular issues, and produced from dies with more intricate diework. Since mintage figures for this series are either lacking or unreliable, it is difficult to ascertain which dates are rare. Since these are generally not collected by date, the question is probably moot.
