Theodosius I the Great (AD 379-395). AV solidus (21mm, 4.38 gm, 12h). NGC Choice MS★ 5/5 - 5/5. Milan, AD 389-91. D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust of Theodosius right, viewed from front / VICTO-RIA AVGG, two emperors (Theodosius and Valentinian II or Arcadius), nimbate, in consular robes, seated facing on throne, together with right hands holding globe between them; above, facing half figure of Victory with wings spread, star (?) and palm branch below; M - D across fields, COM in exergue. RIC 8D variant (no star between figures). Exceptional strike, detail and surfaces, with mirror-like fields, well deserving of the elusive Choice MS★ grade.
Of particular note is the apparent star between the two figures, between the top of the palm branch and the hands holding the globe. This apparent mint mark is not noted in RIC and apparently unrecorded.
