British Colony. Victoria Proof Pice 1897 PR63 Brown NGC, London mint, KM1. Intricately defined with a melange of multicolored patina atop glistening fields on both sides. Very rare as a proof of the date, with the only other example we're aware of selling at Baldwin's in 2013 as part of the Arielle Collection for the equivalent of $800 hammer. Since that time, collector focus on these rare colonial proofs has certainly heightened, and for extremely rare issues such as this piece, we expect collector demand to approach frenzied levels.
