Bavaria. Ludwig III gold 20 Mark 1914-D MS64 NGC, Munich mint, KM1009, Fr-3772. An exceptionally scarce type, and one which we have rarely offered--the previous being an NGC MS63 which realized a hammer of $4,600 in our 2016 Long Beach auction (sale 3049, lot 30807). An extremely lustrous and radiant near-gem, with only a hint of scattered marks in the fields on the obverse. A highly important type in the German 20 mark series.
