Saxony. Friedrich Augustus III Taler 1790-IEC MS66 NGC, Dresden mint, KM1023, Dav-2697, Schnee-1088. A superb example of this very popular one-year type. The surfaces have full, sparkling luster with slate-gray toning and golden highlights. The strike is quite bold, with no imperfections that mar this superior example. Very rare in such immaculate condition, with only two examples certified in MS66 by NGC and PCGS combined, with none finer. Friedrich Augustus III was the last King of Saxony (1904-18) and he voluntarily abdicated the throne in 1918 after the defeat of the German army in World War I. Ex. Ernst Otto Horn Collection.
