Great Britain
George III gold Sovereign 1820 MS63 PCGS, Royal mint, KM674, S-3785C. Closed 2 variety. Fully luminous, with prooflike reflectivity in the fields that contrasts nicely against the satin-covered designs and a bold striking that has crisply detailed the central illustrations. Minor wisps and contact marks remain consistent with the Choice moniker, but more importantly, few survivors of this variety have managed to reach this pinnacle level of technical quality. Despite the SCBC reference placing a slight premium on the "Open 2" variance, a search of recent auction sales shows far fewer records of this type, especially so fine.
