Guatemala
Central American Republic 8 Reales 1837 NG-BA MS64 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM4. From the eye-appeal standpoint, an absolute monster of a coin with reflective shimmer throughout the obverse and reverse fields that is covered in an absolutely captivating mixture of bright gold and green patina. For the issue, the strike is also well above average, with crisp definition that renders the ceiba tree's leaves almost entirely full. Although of relatively minor visual consequence, a set of contact marks around the 8 in the denomination are observed, and undoubtedly prevented Gem certification. Still, the single finest example of this date thus far graded by either NGC or PCGS and sure to be hotly contested by Latin American collectors that are endeavoring to assemble this classic type by date.
