Johann II gold Essai 20 Kronen 1898 MS67 NGC, Vienna mint, KM-E4, Divo-89. Obv. Bust of Johann II left. Rev. Crowned arms dividing value 20-KR, With date (18-98) below, and ESSAI around the periphery at 5 o'clock. A phenomenal example of this exceedingly rare pattern issue. The strike is flawless, with bright golden mint luster and surfaces free of contact marks. This is the only example of the 1898 Essai that has been certified by either NGC or PCGS. It is the first we have seen and, undoubtedly, one of the finer surviving pieces from the original mintage of only 35 coins.
