Ferdinand VII gold Escudo 1814 Mo-HJ MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM122, Cal-298. The first date of the proper Ferdinand VII bust type. A scarce type, underrated at the observed Mint State level, with the present example possessing vivid luster and some natural granularity over the surfaces. As is common to essentially all survivors, a trifle of striking softness in Ferdinand's laurel crown is observed. The second finest example of the date we've sold, the last being a MS64+ that brought $5,170 as part of the incomparable Rudman Collection.
