Republic gold 20 Pesos 1874 CH-M MS61 NGC, Chihuahua mint, KM414.1, Fr-121. Mintage: 1,116. Very rare quality for this rare date and mint combination, showcasing luminous bloom in the fields on both sides and a strike that renders all the intricacies of the eagle's feathers far better than others we've seen. While seemingly a common characteristic of all survivors, it's interesting to note that the 4 punch in the date appears to have been borrowed from other coinage, as the 187 numbers are evidently larger. Clearly a finer specimen than the FoxLair Collection coin (graded AU55) that we sold in January 2015 for $3,055 and as such, likely to generate even more excitement among series specialists.
