Confederation Solothurn Shooting Festival 5 Francs 1855 MS64 NGC, Bern mint, KM-XS3, HMZ-21343a, Richter-1117a. An alluring and highly elusive type, with a mintage of just 3,000 pieces, this exceptional near-gem parallels the regular business strike 5 Francs, but with an edge inscription indicating the Solothurn shooting festival. Due to its otherwise extreme similarity to the business strike, this special emission found its way into circulation, resulting in many of the examples having some degree of wear. The impeccable, lustrous, and beautifully toned nature of this specimen sets it apart. Its only comparable is a PCGS MS65 which realized a hammer of $17,000 in early 2016.
