Manuel I Comnenus (AD 1143-1180). AV hyperpyron (4.45 gm). NGC Choice AU 4/5 - 2/5, graffiti. Constantinople, AD 1143-1152. Facing bust of youthful, beardless Christ Emmanuel, with cruciform nimbus, five pellets in each arm of cross, wearing pallium and colobium, raising right hand in benediction and holding scroll in left; barred IC - XC in fields / Manuel standing facing, wearing crown, divitision and chlamys, holding labarum and globus surmounted by patriarchal cross: in upper field to right, Manus Dei. Sear 1956. DOC 1a. With an arresting and "Buddha-like" depiction of Christ. Light graffiti in outer margins of both sides.
