George III copper "God Save the King" Medal 1800 AU58 Brown NGC, 39mm, BHM-486. A marvelous memento featuring a tiny cartouched portrait of King George being protected by an angelic, winged Britannia; reverse showing the date May 15, 1800. One of a number of medals issued to celebrate the king's survival of an attempted assassination at the Drury Lane Theatre, where a madman took a shot at him. Eimer says "The King is reported to have shown unconcern and to have 'slept as quietly as usual during the interval'."
