Cyprus Government of Cyprus 1 Shilling 1.3.1920 Pick 14. Following World War One, Cyprus suffered a chronic coin shortage which led to another locally printed emergency issue of 1 Shilling notes that were printed on unused stocks of 5 Shillings notes. 2 Shillings notes were apparently envisioned, but never officially released. TDLR was then again asked to provide more appropriate 1 and 2 Shillings notes, which were placed in circulation in 1920. By 1922, the island received large shipments of bronze and silver coins and withdrew and demonetized a wide range of early notes including all of these small denomination notes. PMG grades this example Choice Very Fine 35, noting minor rust. This limited circulation period helps explain the rarity of this note today, with only four previous auction appearances of this Pick number in any form taking place. HID08701242017
