Augustus. Silver Denarius (3.26 g), 27 BC-AD 14. Caesaraugusta, ca. 19/8 BC. CAESAR/AVGVSTVS in two lines between two laurel trees. Reverse: OB/CIVIS/SERVATOS in three lines within oak wreath. RIC -; cf. BN 1280-1 (aureus); BMC -; cf. Calicó 249 (aureus). Extremely Rare and seemingly unique in silver. Lovely strike on a nice full flan. Light old cabinet tone. Superb Extremely Fine. Estimate Value $2,000 - 2,500
These types are combined only on aurei struck at Caesaraugusta (modern Zaragoza in Spain), suggesting that this is probably a trial strike in silver.
