Early Half Dollars
1806/5 50C O-101, T-6, R.3, AU53 NGC. Ex: Hilt Collection. A faint die crack crosses the tops of the letters ITE in UNITED, but no cud has formed, confirming the earlier die state of the variety. Thick stone-gray patina blankets both sides of this richly patinated half, with deeper charcoal-gray at the margins. Bold details remain on Liberty's hair with minimal wear. The eagle also displays sharp detail, although some of the field stars are weak. Notable abrasions are confined to two marks between STATES and OF on the reverse. Glimpses of reddish-gold luster remain in a few protected areas.
