Bust Half Dollars
1834 50C Small Date, Small Letters, O-114, R.1, MS64 PCGS. A distinctive double outline on the clasp narrows the possible die varieties to O-113, O-114, or O-116, while sharp recutting on stars 3 and 4 confirms the O-114 obverse. Wide doubling of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM and weakness at LUR of PLURIBUS confirms the variety. This near-Gem example ties for either second or third in the Condition Census for the variety, depending on which listing is used. Both Herrman and Parsley show MS64 coins high in the Census. Tangerine-gold accents visit the lustrous, lilac-gray surfaces. The strike is generally sharp, but incomplete on the star centers and scroll.
