Early Dollars
1797 $1 9x7 Stars, Large Letters, B-1, BB-73, R.3 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. VG. Bowers Die State II. A raised pellet flaw below star 9 is diminished, virtually unseen on this well-worn early dollar. Variety BB-73, although plentiful in the absolute sense, is scarce relative to collector demand. Only 7,776 1797 dollars were struck, and the low mintage is understandably enticing. Outlines of the bust and eagle are clear over battleship-gray surfaces. Stars 8 and 9 and LIB are largely indistinct. Myriad marks throughout, but the cleaning is minimally distracting.
