1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling, IN at Bottom, AU50 NGC. Noe-5, W-470, Salmon 3-D, R.2. 71.8 grains. Moderately off-center on the obverse toward 6 o'clock -- as are most examples of Noe-5 -- the reverse is beautifully centered. The letters IN MA are partially off the flan, and the top branches of the oak tree are slightly weak from the S-shaped wave of the rocker press. A vertical planchet indent or crimp leaves most of the design elements unaffected, while glossy and attractive warm-gray patina shows glimpses of reddish-gold luster in well-protected areas.
