Indian Cents
1906 1C MS67 Red PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint struck a large mintage of more than 96 million Indian cents in 1906. The coins were released into circulation and few were saved for numismatic purposes until some interest in the issue developed after World War II. Many circulated examples were culled from circulation during that era and original rolls were sometimes found as late as the 1960s. In MS67 condition, with original red surfaces, the 1906 is an extremely rare issue, and no coins have been certified in higher grades (7/17).
The present coin is a stunning Superb Gem, with impeccably preserved copper-red surfaces that show no mentionable distractions. The design elements are well-detailed, with just a trace of the typical softness on the feather tips. Vibrant mint luster adds to the terrific eye appeal. Population: 3 in 67 Red, 0 finer (7/17).
