1917 1C Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. Struck from worn, flowlined dies but still sharply defined with good visibility of the die doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date. Satiny original mint luster illuminates gold, plum, amber, and copper-orange hues on each side. No distracting spots are seen. Uncirculated examples of FS-101 are scarce, particularly with remaining copper-red color of any sort. This Gem is among the finest Red and Brown coins at PCGS (7/17). Eye appeal surpasses that of most of its peers. Recently, a Gem Red and Brown PCGS coin realized more than $10,000 in our June 2016 Long Beach Signature sale. We feel that the present coin is visually superior to that piece. Population: 5 in 65 Red and Brown, 0 finer (7/17).
